Reconstructive surgery

Reconstructive surgery is a procedure of correcting or repairing body with abnormal structures caused by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma or injury, infection, tumors, or disease. It is usually performed to improve function, but may also be done to approximate a normal appearance. It can be of following types:

•  Reconstruction after skin cancer

•  Head and Neck cancer reconstruction

The reaction differs with people and the procedure of treatment. To avoid consequences it is necessary to consult the doctor to set proper expectations and avoid undesirable side effects like infection, bleeding, an unwanted scar, improper wound closure, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. It is very important to identify possible allergies and negative reactions before undergoing any type of treatment.

What to look in a surgeon:

•  Has completed at least five years of surgical training with a minimum of two years in plastic surgery.
•  Is Trained and experienced
•  Follows strict code of ethics.
•  Fulfills medical education requirements, including standards and innovations in patient safety.
